Bristol Bay Borough is located in the southwestern part of the great state of Alaska. Established on October 2, 1962, it became the first organized borough in Alaska. Covering an area of 505 square miles, the borough is now home to around 900 permanent residents.

The region of Bristol Bay has a rich history dating back thousands of years, as the indigenous Yup'ik Eskimos and Alutiiq peoples have inhabited the area since prehistoric times. They relied on fishing and hunting marine mammals for sustenance. Russian explorers arrived in Bristol Bay in the late 1700s and established trading posts in the region. In the 1800s, American and European whalers and traders also frequented the area.

The modern economy of Bristol Bay Borough is primarily driven by commercial fishing. It is known as the "Red Salmon Capital of the World" because of its thriving salmon fishery. The Bristol Bay Fisheries Reserve was established in 1972 to protect and preserve the world's largest sockeye salmon run. The borough is also home to multiple national parks and wildlife refuges, such as the Katmai National Park & Preserve and Alagnak Wild River, which attract nature enthusiasts and tourists.

A fun fact about Bristol Bay Borough is that it is home to the annual "Bristol Bay Fishtival and Run", a unique event that combines a 1-mile run, 5k, and 10k with a celebration of the local fishing culture. The Fishtival features plenty of seafood, music, games, and activities for the entire family.
