Conecuh County, located in the southern part of the great state of Alabama, was established on February 13, 1818. The county was carved out from the eastern part of Monroe County and is named after the Creek Indian term "Econachatee," which translates to "land of cane." The Creek Indians initially inhabited the region before the arrival of European settlers.

The county seat and largest city is Evergreen, which was founded in 1819 as a trading post. Conecuh County is known for its natural resources and vast expanses of pine and hardwood forests. Agriculture and timber have been the basis of the county's economy throughout much of its history.

Conecuh County played a role in the Civil War, as a confederate training camp was located in the area. The camp, known as Camp Pollard, was abandoned in 1862 during the course of the war.

During the early 20th century, the county witnessed the growth of the timber industry with sawmills popping up across the region. However, the Great Depression hit Conecuh County hard, and many residents suffered from economic hardships during that time.

Fun fact: This region is home to the annual Conecuh Sausage Festival, which takes place in Evergreen, Alabama. The festival began in 1983 and celebrates the local Conecuh Sausage Company, known nationwide for their hickory-smoked sausage products.
