Jefferson County in the great state of Alabama was founded on December 13, 1819, and named after the third President of the United States, Thomas Jefferson. It is located in the north-central part of the state, nestled between the southeastern Appalachian Mountains and the Coastal Plain. With Birmingham as its largest city, Jefferson County also serves as its county seat and is part of the Birmingham-Hoover Metropolitan Area.

The area saw significant industrial growth during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, becoming an epicenter of iron, steel, and mining industries. The growth was fueled by the rich deposits of coal, iron ore, and limestone present in the area, which resulted in Birmingham being dubbed "The Magic City" due to its rapid population growth.

Throughout its history, Jefferson County played an essential role in the Civil Rights Movement, with Birmingham as the battleground for various pivotal events during the 1960s. One of the most notable events was the bombing of the 16th Street Baptist Church on September 15, 1963, which tragically took the lives of four African American girls and garnered nationwide attention.

Fun Fact: Vulcan, the world's largest cast-iron statue, has called Birmingham, Jefferson County home since 1904. The 56-foot tall statue of the Roman god of fire symbolizes the city's roots in the iron and steel industry and stands as a symbol of the region's resilience and industrial might.
