Saline County is located in the heart of the great state of Arkansas, in the southern United States. The county was officially established on November 2nd, 1835, and covers an area of 731 square miles. It is situated within the central region of the state and is part of the Little Rock-North Little Rock-Conway Metropolitan Statistical Area.

The history of Saline County dates back to the Louisiana Purchase in 1803, which incorporated present-day Arkansas into the United States. Early settlers were attracted to the area due to the rich natural resources, such as salt, which played an essential role in preserving food in the days before refrigeration. The county's name, "Saline," is derived from the French word for "salt."

The settlement of Saline County expanded in the mid-1800s with the development of stagecoach roads, which further improved accessibility and trade connections for its residents. The county seat, Benton, was founded in 1833 and named after Thomas Hart Benton, a senator from Missouri who supported Arkansas statehood. Throughout the 20th century, the county saw economic growth with the rise of industries such as bauxite mining, glass manufacturing, and the service sector.

One fun fact about Saline County is that it was once called the "Bauxite capital of the world." In the early 1900s, the county was home to the largest bauxite deposits in the United States. Bauxite, the primary ore used to produce aluminum, had a vital role during both World War I and World War II. In fact, all of the aluminum used by the U.S. military during World War II was sourced from bauxite mined in Saline County, making it an essential part of the country's war effort.
