Del Norte County, located in the northwestern corner of California, was established on March 2, 1857. This picturesque county is bordered by the Pacific Ocean to the west, Oregon to the north, and by Siskiyou and Humboldt counties to the east and south, respectively. The region has an area of approximately 1,230 square miles and a population of just over 27,000 residents.

The name "Del Norte" means "of the north" in Spanish and is a testament to the county's location in California. The region was first inhabited by Native American tribes, such as the Yurok, Tolowa, and Chilula, who lived along the coastline and rivers. European exploration of Del Norte County began with the arrival of the Spanish in the late 18th century. However, it wasn't until the California Gold Rush in the mid-19th century that significant numbers of settlers started to arrive. The discovery of gold near the Klamath River led to the development of Crescent City, the county seat.

Del Norte County is characterized by its scenic beauty, ranging from redwood forests to rocky coastal bluffs. One of the county's gems is the Redwood National and State Parks, which are home to some of the tallest trees on Earth. The park was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1980 and a Man and the Biosphere Reserve in 1983.

Fun Fact: Del Norte County's Trees of Mystery, located within the redwood forests, is a must-see attraction. The Trees of Mystery highlights peculiarly shaped redwood trees, such as the Brotherhood Tree, which is estimated to be more than 300 feet tall, and the Cathedral Tree which has nine trees growing together in a somewhat circular pattern. Visitors can also enjoy a scenic ride on the SkyTrail Gondola through the forest canopy for an unforgettable experience.
