.Bay County, situated in the northwestern region of Florida, is part of the Panama City, Florida Metropolitan Statistical Area. It was founded on April 24, 1913, and named after St. Andrews Bay, a significant body of water in the area. The county's largest city is Panama City, which also serves as the county seat.
The land that now comprises Bay County was originally inhabited by Native American tribes, including the Muscogee (Creek) and the Seminole. European exploration started in the 16th century when Spanish explorers arrived in search of gold and other valuables.
