Barrow County, located in the great state of Georgia, was established on July 7, 1914. The county was formed from portions of Gwinnett, Jackson, and Walton Counties, and was named in honor of David Crenshaw Barrow Jr., a prominent Georgia educator, chancellor of the University of Georgia, and a local state senator.

The region has a rich history, with early settlements dating back to the late 18th and early 19th centuries. As the 20th century progressed, Barrow County experienced significant growth in population and industry, with agriculture being the primary economic driver during its early years. The county has also been part of the thriving industrial and manufacturing developments in the region, particularly related to the textile and cotton industries.

One fun fact about Barrow County is that its city, Winder, is home to Fort Yargo State Park. Established in 1967, the park offers a variety of recreational activities including camping, hiking, and water sports. It is centered around a 260-acre lake and features a historic log fort constructed by settlers for protection against Creek and Cherokee tribes in 1792.
