Dooly County is located in the great state of Georgia, United States, and was established on May 15, 1821. Named after Colonel John Dooly, a hero in the American Revolutionary War, the county is part of the state's Central Region. It spans approximately 397 square miles and has over 14,000 residents, as of the 2020 US Census.

In the early 19th century, the land was primarily inhabited by Creek Indians, who were forced to give up their territory under the 1821 Treaty of Indian Springs. The county was then established, and settlers from other regions of Georgia and other states began to move in, bringing along with them their agricultural practices. Over time, Dooly County became known for its farming and agricultural industries, particularly producing large quantities of cotton, peanuts, and more recently, pecans.

One fun fact about Dooly County is that it is home to the annual Big Pig Jig, a popular barbecue and cooking contest held in Vienna since 1982. Drawing competitors and visitors from all over the country, the Big Pig Jig has been recognized as one of America's top barbecue events and was even featured on the Food Network.

Aside from its agricultural background and popular barbecue event, Dooly County has come a long way from its humble beginnings, boasting a public school system, a dedicated law enforcement agency, and leisure spots such as Flint River, Lake Blackshear Resort, and Georgia Veterans State Park.
