Glynn County, located along the southeastern coast of Georgia, was established on February 5, 1777, and is named in honor of John Glynn, a British Member of Parliament and a friend of the American cause during the Revolutionary War. Spanning 585 square miles, Glynn County is part of the Golden Isles, a group of islands that includes St. Simons Island, Sea Island, Little St. Simons Island, and Jekyll Island.

Historically, Glynn County has a rich colonial past. The original inhabitants were the Guale and Mocama Native American tribes. Later, in the 16th century, Spanish missionaries arrived and established missions to convert the natives to Christianity. By the early 18th century, the British established a presence in the region with the founding of the Province of Georgia, and the area became a strategically important territory due to its coastal location.

In the 19th century, Glynn County became a thriving agricultural community, primarily cultivating rice, cotton, and timber. The region was deeply impacted by the Civil War, and several conflicts took place in the area. After the war, Glynn County focused on reestablishing its economy, which shifted towards tourism in the 20th century. The county's beautiful natural surroundings, historic sites, and Victorian-era architecture make it a popular vacation destination.

One fun fact about Glynn County is that it is home to the iconic "Lover's Oak," a live oak tree that is estimated to be over 900 years old. According to local legend, native American tribes in the area believed that the tree held special powers, and couples would meet beneath the branches of the ancient oak to pledge their love and exchange vows. Today, the tree remains a cherished part of the region's cultural heritage and serves as a popular spot for romantic visits and even wedding ceremonies.
