Schley County, located in the great state of Georgia, was established on December 22, 1857, and named in honor of William Schley, who served as a U.S. Representative and the 36th Governor of Georgia. The county seat is Ellaville, a charming community with a rich heritage. Schley County is part of the larger Macon, GA Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Before Schley County was established, the area was inhabited by the Creek Indians. After the 1825 Treaty of Indian Springs, the Creek Indians ceded the area to the United States, allowing European settlers to move in. Agriculture and timber have always played a significant role in the economy of Schley County, with cotton farming being the primary agricultural endeavor in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

One fun fact about Schley County is that it is home to the world's longest porch swing, located in downtown Ellaville. The swing, which is approximately 50 feet long, has become a popular tourist attraction and a symbol of southern hospitality for the community.
