Taliaferro County, located in the great state of Georgia, is steeped in history and cultural significance. Established on December 24, 1825, the county was formed from portions of Greene, Hancock, Oglethorpe, Warren, and Wilkes counties. It is named in honor of Benjamin Taliaferro, a distinguished soldier during the American Revolutionary War, and later a U.S. Congressman representing Georgia.

Covering approximately 195 square miles, Taliaferro County is one of the smallest counties in Georgia in terms of land area. The county seat is located in the quaint town of Crawfordville, which was once a thriving commercial and political center during the antebellum period. Crawfordville is best known as the birthplace of Alexander H. Stephens, who served as the Vice President of the Confederate States of America during the Civil War. A historic site, A.H. Stephens State Park, was established in his honor and features his home, Liberty Hall, which serves as a museum today.

One fun fact about Taliaferro County is that it has been a popular location for filming major motion pictures. In 1991, the critically acclaimed movie "Fried Green Tomatoes" was filmed in the picturesque town of Juliette, a small community within the county. The main filming location, the Whistle Stop Cafe, continues to operate as a restaurant, attracting tourists who are fans of the movie.
