Thomas County, located in the great state of Georgia, was established on December 23, 1825, named after Revolutionary War Brigadier General Jett Thomas. It is positioned in the southwestern part of the state and covers approximately 552 square miles. The county's history is rooted in early Native American settlements, with the Creek and Seminole tribes initially inhabiting the area. In the early 19th century, it became one of the prime locations for cotton plantation.

The county seat, Thomasville, was incorporated on January 1, 1850, and would later come to be known as the "Winter Resort of the South" due to its comfortable climate and beautiful natural surroundings. During the late 1800s, Thomasville had become quite popular among wealthy Northern Americans as a winter retreat, leading to the construction of grand Victorian-style mansions and inns.

Throughout the years, Thomas County has played a significant role in agriculture, primarily in the areas of cotton, corn, cattle, and poultry. Today, Thomas County boasts a beautiful blend of historical landmarks, including the iconic Lapham-Patterson House, which features a unique architectural design with no two windows or doors alike due to the former owner's fear of fire.

A fun fact about Thomas County is that it's home to the Big Oak, a live oak tree in Thomasville that's said to be over 330 years old. This magnificent tree has a limb span of more than 162 feet and is a symbol of the area's rich heritage and natural beauty.
