Upson County, located in the great state of Georgia, was founded on December 15, 1824, and named after Stephen Upson, a prominent Georgia attorney and legislator. The county is situated in the central west part of Georgia and covers roughly 328 square miles.

Thomaston, which was established in 1825, serves as the county seat. The city was named after General Jett Thomas, an Indian fighter, builder of the state capitol, and Savannah and Macon railroad surveyor. Upson County played significant roles in the cotton and textile industries, primarily during the 19th and 20th centuries. It thrived in these industries until the market shifted overseas, leading to a decline in the local economy.

Upson County is also part of the Southern Rivers region in Georgia, known for picturesque landscapes, including wildflower trails, creeks, and waterfalls. Fun fact: Sprewell Bluff Park, one of Upson County's celebrated parks, features almost 1,400 acres of preserved land and provides visitors with access to activities like hiking, fishing, kayaking, and observing wildlife along the Flint River.
