Adams County, located in the southwestern region of the great state of Iowa, has a rich and fascinating history. Established on January 12, 1851, it was named in honor of the sixth President of the United States, John Quincy Adams. The area originally witnessed settlement by European pioneers, who were primarily engaged in agriculture as their main source of income.

In the early years, Adams County experienced a period of significant growth due to the construction of the Chicago, Burlington, and Quincy Railroad, which ran through the county. As a result, many towns in the area were founded along the railroad, and it also boosted economic activity, including trade and commerce.

Corning, the county seat since 1857, has seen considerable development over the years. Industrial growth coupled with a steadily rising population contributed to the expansion of infrastructure, education, and healthcare facilities in the county.

One fun fact about Adams County is that it is home to Lake Icaria, a man-made lake covering 670 acres, which was created in the 1960s thanks to a combined effort of the local community and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources. This beautiful reservoir and recreational area offer numerous outdoor activities, such as fishing, camping, and boating, making it a popular destination for locals and tourists alike.
