Bremer County, located in the northeastern region of the great state of Iowa, was first established on January 15, 1851, and officially organized on February 7, 1853. The county was named in honor of Fredrika Bremer, a Swedish author and feminist reformer known for her advocacy for women's rights and social justice. Originally, several native tribes, including the Meskwaki and Ioway, inhabited the region before European settlers arrived.

Waverly, the county seat of Bremer County, was founded in 1853 and derived its name from Sir Walter Scott's novel "Waverley" or "Tis Sixty Years Since." The area saw rapid growth and development during the mid-nineteenth century, primarily due to its fertile soil, which attracted agricultural settlers.

A prominent industry in Bremer County has been agriculture, with many farms cultivating corn, soybeans, hay, and producing dairy, hogs, and cattle. The county has also been home to various manufacturing industries and trade services.

Fun Fact: Wartburg College, a private liberal arts college affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, is located in Waverly, Bremer County. Founded in 1852, the college moved to Waverly in 1879 and has been contributing to the educational and cultural life of the community ever since.
