Chickasaw County, located in the great state of Iowa, was established on January 15, 1851. It was named in honor of the Chickasaw tribe, which is one of the "Five Civilized Tribes" of Native Americans who lived in the southeastern United States before being forcibly removed to the Indian Territory (now Oklahoma) during the 1830s.

The county is surrounded by Howard County to the north, Floyd County to the east, Bremer County to the southeast, Butler County to the southwest, and Mitchell County to the west. Its county seat is the city of New Hampton, which was named after the original Hampton, New Hampshire.

Chickasaw County witnessed significant settlement in the mid-19th century, as immigrants, mainly from Germany and other parts of Europe, began to arrive. They established thriving agricultural communities, mainly focusing on dairy farming, corn production, and raising livestock. The county grew steadily, and the arrival of the Waterloo, Cedar Falls, and Northern Railroad in the latter part of the 19th century further aided its development.

Today, Chickasaw County continues to be predominantly rural and focused on agriculture. Manufacturing industries and healthcare services also contribute to the local economy.

Fun fact: The Carnegie Cultural Center located in New Hampton serves as a local history museum and showcases the heritage of Chickasaw County. The museum is housed within a historic Carnegie Library built-in 1911, making it a unique and interesting destination for visitors who appreciate history, architecture, and local culture.
