Winnebago County is located in the north-central part of Iowa, USA. Established on January 15, 1846, and officially organized on July 1, 1851, Winnebago County was named after the Winnebago tribe of Native Americans who lived in the region. The county seat is Forest City, which is also its largest city.

In its early years, Winnebago County's economy was mainly centered around agriculture, thanks to its rich soil and excellent farming conditions. The first settlers of the county began arriving in the 1850s, primarily from Sweden, Norway, and Germany.

One of the significant events in Winnebago County's history was the arrival of the Minneapolis & St. Louis Railway (M & ST.L) in the early 1870s, which resulted in a boost to the local economy and an enhancement in trade and transportation in the region.

Fun fact: Winnebago County is home to Pilot Knob State Park, one of Iowa's earliest state parks established in 1923. Pilot Knob State Park features the second-highest point in Iowa, standing at 1,450 feet above sea level. This park is an excellent spot for hiking, picnicking, and observing wildlife, providing numerous recreational opportunities for residents and visitors alike.
