Caribou County is located in the southeastern part of the great state of Idaho. It was established on February 11, 1919, and is named after the Caribou Mountains, which are part of the Rocky Mountain Range. The county seat and largest city is Soda Springs.

The history of Caribou County dates back thousands of years to the time when indigenous peoples, such as the Shoshone and Bannock tribes, inhabited the region. In the early 19th century, fur trappers, including the famous explorer John C. Frmont, ventured into the area. By the mid-1800s, pioneers and settlers began to establish settlements, drawn by the fertile soil and abundant resources, including timber and mineral springs.

The Oregon Trail, a major route for westward migration in the 19th century, passed through part of Caribou County. Later, the construction of the railroad allowed for further development and increased accessibility in the region. The county experienced economic growth through mining, farming, and the timber industry, among others.

A fun fact about Caribou County, Idaho, is that it is home to the world's only captive geyser, which is located in Soda Springs. The geyser was discovered in 1937 while drilling for a natural hot spring source. It now erupts regularly and can reach heights of up to 100 feet. Today, visitors can stop by Geyser Park to see the impressive geyser and learn about its history.
