Macon County, located in the great state of Illinois, was created on January 19, 1829, out of Shelby County. Its name is derived from Nathaniel Macon, a Revolutionary War soldier and statesman who went on to serve as a U.S. Representative and Senator from North Carolina.

Macon County is situated in the heart of Illinois, and it spreads across an area of about 586 square miles. Its county seat, Decatur, was founded in 1829 as well and is known for its strong industrial and agricultural history. Decatur is also famously referred to as the "Soybean Capital of the World" due to its vital role in producing and processing soybeans.

One of the significant historical events in Macon County's history was the establishment of the Decatur Staleys (now known as the Chicago Bears) in 1920, a professional football team founded by A. E. Staley, the owner of the A. E. Staley Manufacturing Company. This club later moved to Chicago in 1921, but Decatur remains an essential part of the team's history.

As for a fun fact, Macon County is home to the Hieronymus Mueller Museum, which commemorates the life and achievements of Hieronymus Mueller, a pioneer in the field of water engineering. He is credited with inventing several devices, including the Mueller Water Tapper and the Mueller Water Pressure Regulator, that revolutionized municipal water systems around the world.
