Miami County, located in the great state of Indiana, was officially established on February 2, 1834. It got its name in honor of the Miami Native American tribe that resided in the area. The first settlers, primarily of European descent, arrived in the area around 1828, and the region experienced significant growth following the completion of the Wabash & Erie Canal in 1840, which helped to spur trade and economic activity.

Peru, the county seat, was established in 1834 and was a crucial hub for transportation and industry during the 19th century. The area played a significant role in various industries including timber, agriculture, and coal mining. In the early 20th century, the construction of several railroad lines passing through Peru made the city an essential transportation hub, further fueling Miami County's development.

One fun fact about Miami County is that it is known as the "Circus Capital of the World." During the late 19th and early 20th centuries, winter quarters for several major American circuses, including the Hagenbeck-Wallace Circus and the American Circus Corporation, were located in Peru. The city still celebrates its circus heritage with annual events like the "Circus City Festival and Parade" and the "International Circus Hall of Fame," which honors circus performers and promoters from around the world.
