Porter County is located in the northwest region of the great state of Indiana, USA. It was officially established on February 7, 1836, and named in honor of Commodore David Porter, a naval officer who served during the War of 1812 and later fought in the Barbary Wars.

The area that would become Porter County was originally inhabited by Native American tribes, including the Miami and Potawatomi. European settlers, mainly of English and Irish descent, began arriving in the early 19th century. Agricultural and industrial development accelerated after the passage of the National Road Act in 1917, which led to the construction of U.S. 12 highway running through the county.

In the following years, Porter County experienced ongoing growth, particularly in the north, with the development of the Indiana Dunes State Park in 1925, and later the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore in 1966. Today, the county's economy benefits from its unique blend of natural beauty and accessibility, with a mix of industry, agriculture, tourism, and educationincluding Valparaiso University, a notable private institution.

The event features various exhibits, carnival rides, live entertainment, and livestock showsreflecting the region's agricultural history and local culture. The Porter County Fair is one of the largest and most popular county fairs in Indiana, attracting thousands of visitors every year.
