Randolph County is located in the eastern part of Indiana, USA. It was established on January 29, 1818, and named in honor of John Randolph, a U.S. Congressman from Virginia. The county seat is Winchester, which was named after the town of the same name in Virginia.

The history of Randolph County has been significantly influenced by the Native American presence in the region. Before European settlement, the area was inhabited by the Miami and the Delaware tribes. In 1818, the Treaty of St. Mary's led to the removal of Native Americans from the region, opening the way for European settlers, predominantly Quakers, to settle in the area.

Farming and agriculture dominated the early economy, with many settlers clearing forested land to establish their farms. Manufacturing became more crucial in the latter half of the 19th century, with several railroad lines constructed throughout the county to facilitate the transportation of goods.

While not considered as one of Indiana's major industrial centers, Randolph County has maintained a thriving agricultural and small manufacturing sector that has shaped its economic landscape to the present day.

A fun fact about Randolph County is that it was a stop on the Underground Railroad, offering assistance and shelter to enslaved African Americans seeking freedom in the mid-19th century. The Levi Coffin House, an important stop on the Underground Railroad, is located in Fountain City, a town formerly belonging to Randolph County, now part of Wayne County. It was owned by Levi Coffin, a prominent Quaker and abolitionist, who reportedly assisted over 2,000 slaves to escape to freedom.
