Elliott County is located in the eastern part of the great state of Kentucky in the United States. This region was established on February 26, 1869, and named in honor of Judge John Milton Elliott, a prominent Kentucky attorney, judge, and politician who served as a Confederate Congressman during the Civil War. The county seat, Sandy Hook, was chosen on March 24, 1870.

Elliott County's landscape is characterized by the Appalachian Mountain region, which consists of vast forests and breathtaking hills. The area has a rich cultural heritage tied to the early settlers who were mostly of Scots-Irish descent, and their influence can still be seen in the local customs and festivals.

A unique fun fact about Elliott County is its long-held political allegiance to the Democratic Party. For 144 years, from its establishment in 1869 until 2013, Elliott County consistently voted Democratic in every single presidential election. This impressive record made Elliott County the longest-running Democratic stronghold in the entire United States. However, this streak ended in the 2016 presidential election when the county voted Republican for the first time in its history.
