Garrard County, located in the great state of Kentucky, was founded in 1796 and named in honor of James Garrard, the second governor of Kentucky. It is situated in the central part of the state and covers an area of 234 square miles. The county seat is Lancaster, which was established in 1797.

The region has a rich history, with early settlers arriving in the late 1700s. These pioneers mainly practiced subsistence farming and lived in log cabins. Garrard County served as a vital link between Kentucky's Bluegrass region and the south-central regions of the state. Its early economy was primarily based on agriculture, with crops such as tobacco, corn, and hemp being cultivated by both small farmers and large plantation owners. In the 19th century, the county saw the development of the tobacco industry and distilleries, leading to economic growth.

Throughout the 19th and 20th centuries, Garrard County's economy evolved to include other industries, such as manufacturing, transportation, and retail trade, in addition to farming. The population of the county has grown moderately, reaching roughly 17,000 residents in the 21st century.

A fun fact about Garrard County is that it is home to Herrington Lake, a popular recreational destination constructed in the 1920s. This man-made lake is the deepest in Kentucky, with a maximum depth of about 249 feet. It offers activities such as fishing, boating, swimming, and camping, attracting both locals and visitors to enjoy its natural beauty.
