Taylor County, located in the heart of Kentucky, was officially established on March 1, 1848. The county was formed from portions of Green, LaRue, and Marion Counties and was named in honor of President Zachary Taylor, a war hero who participated in the Mexican-American War and later became the 12th President of the United States. The city of Campbellsville serves as the county seat.

In the early 19th century, settlers from Virginia, North Carolina, and other regions flocked to the verdant lands of this region. They were predominantly involved in farming and agriculture, with tobacco, corn, and soybeans being major crops. The county progressed slowly but steadily, witnessing the construction of numerous churches, schools, and businesses throughout the mid-19th and 20th centuries.

Today, Taylor County is home to nearly 25,500 residents, and its economy relies on a mix of manufacturing, agriculture, and education, with Campbellsville University playing a significant role in the area.

Fun Fact: Taylor County boasts the beautiful Green River Lake, which covers over 8,000 acres and was constructed in 1969 by the United States Army Corps of Engineers. This popular recreational spot attracts numerous visitors each year, offering activities such as boating, camping, and fishing, making it a true jewel of Taylor County.
