Winn Parish is a small rural parish located in the great state of Louisiana. Established in 1852, it is named in honor of Walter O. Winn, a prominent lawyer and state legislator from nearby Alexandria. The parish covers an area of approximately 957 square miles and is situated in the north-central part of the state.

Historically, Winn Parish played a vital role in the American Civil War as a stronghold of the Union sentiment in the state. It was home to several prominent pro-Union leaders, who resisted Confederate control during this tumultuous period.

One of the key events in the parish's history was the formation of the Winn Parish Long Leaf Yellow Pine Lumber Company in 1899. This lumber company played a crucial role in the development of the local economy, generating jobs and income for the residents of the parish. Throughout the 20th century, the lumber and forestry industry continued to be the backbone of the economy.

Today, Winn Parish is known for being the birthplace of three notable Louisiana governors, earning it the nickname "the birthplace of Louisiana Governors." The three governors are Huey P. Long, his brother Earl K. Long, and O.K. Allen. A fun fact about this region is Winnfield, the parish seat and birthplace of the Long brothers, houses the Louisiana Political Museum and Hall of Fame. The museum features memorabilia from their careers, giving visitors a glimpse into their lives and impact on Louisiana history.
