Plymouth County, located in the southeastern part of Massachusetts, was officially created on June 2, 1685, and has a rich and significant history that dates back to the early beginnings of America. It was named after the historic town of Plymouth, founded in 1620 by the Pilgrims, who arrived on the Mayflower seeking religious freedom. This event marked the beginning of European settlement in New England.

Plymouth County played a crucial role in the formation of the United States during the colonial period. Some of the earliest and most notable events include the First Thanksgiving, which took place in 1621 with Pilgrims and Wampanoag Native Americans celebrating a successful harvest together.

Throughout the years, Plymouth County has been known for various industries including fishing, agriculture, shipbuilding, and early manufacturing. It continued to grow and develop as a thriving, active region with several towns and cities contributing to its economy, culture, and politics.

One fun fact about Plymouth County is that it houses "Myles Standish State Forest," the largest publicly owned recreation area in the state of Massachusetts. The forest, named after the military leader of Plymouth Colony, Myles Standish, consists of 26 square miles of pine barrens, ponds, and camping sites. This park provides tourists and locals alike with a variety of outdoor recreational activities such as hiking, fishing, birdwatching, and stargazing throughout the year.
