Nobles County is located in the southwestern part of the great state of Minnesota, United States. Established on May 23, 1857, the county was named in honor of William H. Nobles, a prominent American legislato, who was responsible for the construction of the first railroad in the region. Initially, the county remained unorganized until its official organization on October 27, 1870.

The area was originally inhabited by the Dakotas, who referred to the area as "The Great Spirit Lake." The first settlers, predominantly of European descent, arrived in the county in the early 1870s, primarily of French, German, and Swedish origins. These settlers were drawn to the fertile soil for agriculture, leading to the establishment of several communities.

The Great Northern Railway arrived in the county in the 1870s, connecting the area to Minneapolis and St. Paul. This resulted in an increased population and further development of Nobles County. The county seat, Worthington, was founded in 1871, becoming an important hub for the surrounding farming communities.

A fun fact about Nobles County is that it is home to the "Buffalo Ridge," a unique geographical feature that stretches for approximately 60 miles through the county. This ancient beach ridge formed over 14,000 years ago marks the furthest extent of a glacial lake that once covered much of the region. Today, Buffalo Ridge offers prime locations for wind energy production due to its elevated altitude and steady wind patterns, and is now home to one of the largest wind farms in the Midwest.
