Red Lake County is a county located in the northwest part of the great state of Minnesota. The county was established on December 24, 1896, and its county seat is located in the town of Red Lake Falls. The county was formed from sections of Polk County, and it gets its name from the Red Lake River, which flows through the county.

The region has a long history, as it was originally inhabited by Native American tribes, including the Ojibwe and Sioux. In the mid-19th century, European fur traders began settling in the area. The first European settlers arrived in the 1870s, as homesteaders and farmers began to establish communities throughout the region. As of the 2020 United States Census, Red Lake County had a population of around 4,029.

A fun fact about Red Lake County is that in 2015, it was referred to as "the absolute worst place to live in America" by Christopher Ingraham of The Washington Post due to its terrain, which was interpreted as an indication of low quality of life. However, after receiving an invitation from the county officials and visiting it personally, he wrote a follow-up article in 2016 apologizing and praising the region for its beauty and strong sense of community. In fact, Ingraham later moved to Red Lake Falls, Minnesota with his family, becoming a resident of the county that he had previously criticized.
