Callaway County, located in the U.S. state of Missouri, was established on November 25, 1820. The county was named in honor of Captain James Callaway, a notable figure during the War of 1812 and grandson of the famous frontiersman, Daniel Boone. Fulton, the county seat, was founded in 1825 and serves as the largest city in the region.

The Missouri River runs along the northern border of Callaway County, providing natural resources and transportation. The region is largely agricultural, with fertile land perfect for farming, while also embracing education and industry over time.

Callaway County has played an important role in history, particularly during the Civil War. In September of 1864, the "Kingdom of Callaway" refused to surrender to Union forces led by General Clinton B. Fisk. Eventually, a peace treaty was signed, allowing Callaway County to remain under its own jurisdiction during the conflict.

A fun fact about Callaway County is the presence of the National Churchill Museum, located on the campus of Westminster College in Fulton. In 1946, then-former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill delivered his famous "Iron Curtain" speech at the college. The museum centers around a reconstructed medieval church, which was transported from London after World War II and now serves as a living memorial to the legendary statesman.
