Livingston County, located in the great state of Missouri, has a rich historical background dating back to its establishment on January 6, 1837. It was named in honor of Edward Livingston, a prominent American jurist and statesman who notably served as the Secretary of State under President Andrew Jackson. The county is situated in the northwest region of the state and has its county seat in Chillicothe, which also holds the distinction of being the first city in the world to have electric streetlights, starting on April 16, 1881.

European settlement in the area began in the early 19th century. Initially, the area was attractive to farming communities due to its fertile soil and suitable climate. Over time, the county evolved with developments in transportation infrastructure such as railroads in the late 19th century, which brought a growth in population and industry.

Livingston County played a small role in the larger events of American history. During the Civil War, it experienced some skirmishes, and residents of the county found themselves divided in their allegiances to the Union and the Confederacy.

A fun fact about Livingston County is related to the community of Chula, located within the county. Chula is home to the annual Chula Street Fair, an event that dates back to 1909 and continues to be celebrated today, offering a mix of festivities, including live entertainment, food, and games.
