Taney County, located in the southwestern region of the great state of Missouri, was officially established on January 6, 1837. It was named in honor of Roger Brooke Taney, the Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court at the time. The county seat is Forsyth, although its most populous city is Branson.

The area comprising Taney County was originally inhabited by Native American tribes, primarily the Osage Nation, before European settlers arrived in the early 1800s. The first European American to settle in the region was Charles H. Severe, who established Severe's Mill that served as the nucleus of a small settlement. Later, more settlers from the southern states came attracted by the rich land and opportunities for hunting and farming.

The construction of the White River Railway in 1905 facilitated access to the area, educating and culturally enriching the region. This railway was later replaced by the Missouri Pacific Railroad Company-connecting the county to the rest of the United States.

The tourism industry in Taney County has been one of its primary economic drivers, beginning with the construction of Lake Taneycomo in 1913, a reservoir now known for its premier trout fishing. In more recent years, the city of Branson has become a popular tourist destination renowned for its numerous entertainment venues, family attractions, and annual festivals.

One fun fact about Taney County is that the famous 1880s-themed amusement park, Silver Dollar City, is located on the outskirts of Branson in Stone County, just a short drive from Taney County. Silver Dollar City is not only an amusement park but also a tribute to American craftsmanship and creativity, with over 100 craftsmen demonstrating traditional skills like glass blowing, blacksmithing, and pottery making.
