Beaverhead County, located in the southwestern part of Montana, is the largest county in the state spanning an area of 5,572 square miles. Established on February 2, 1865, it is named after a large rock formation in the area that early explorers believed resembled the head of a beaver. The county seat is Dillon, which is known for its beautiful landscapes, rich agricultural history, and several ranches.

The region has a rich cultural history, with various indigenous tribes such as the Shoshone and the Bannock having inhabited the area for thousands of years before European settlers arrived. Lewis and Clark, two famous American explorers, passed through the area in 1805 during their Corp of Discovery expedition. In the mid-1800s, gold was discovered in the Beaverhead County, attracting a significant number of settlers and contributing to the establishment of several mining towns. Bannack, the first territorial capital of Montana, is also located within the boundaries of Beaverhead County, but it was later declared as a ghost town.

A fun fact about Beaverhead County is the existence of the mysterious "Shakey's Barbershop," located in Lima, which features notable quirks like an antique barber's chair and an old wooden floor. Visitors can step back in time as they explore this fascinating establishment. Additionally, the county plays home to numerous outdoor recreational opportunities such as hiking, fishing, and skiing, with its proximity to Bitterroot, Beaverhead, and Centennial mountains.
