Cascade County, situated in the great state of Montana, was created on September 12, 1887. The county gets its name from the falls on the Missouri River, which Meriwether Lewis, of the Lewis and Clark Expedition, titled "Great Falls." The county seat is the city of Great Falls.

Cascade County played an integral role in the western expansion of the United States, as the Lewis and Clark Expedition passed through the region in 1805. The area continued to grow with the arrival of steamboats, as well as the Great Northern Railway and the Milwaukee Road railway systems, enhancing economic development and bringing settlers to the region during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

In the 20th century, Cascade County became home to Malmstrom Air Force Base, which played a significant role in the nation's defense initiatives, especially during the Cold War. Additionally, the county has a strong agricultural background, with wheat and barley being the primary crops grown in the region.

Fun Fact: Cascade County is host to the world's shortest river, the Roe River, which flows 201 feet (61 meters) between Giant Springs and the Missouri River in Great Falls. This fascinating natural feature has earned a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records.
