Pondera County, located in the great state of Montana, was established on February 17, 1919. The county was named after the Latin word "pondera," which means "balanced weight" or "equilibrium," and was chosen to reflect the balanced and fair-minded nature of the county. The county seat is Conrad, which was named after Charles E. Conrad, a pioneer businessman and founder of Kalispell, Montana.

Pondera County lies east of the Rocky Mountains along the Eastern Front Range and covers an area of approximately 1,640 square miles. The region is largely rural, with agriculture being the primary source of income for its residents. Crops grown in the county include wheat, barley, and hay, while cattle and sheep ranching also play a significant role in the local economy.
