Cleveland County, located in the great state of North Carolina, has a rich historical background that dates back to the early 19th century. It was formed in 1841 from parts of Lincoln and Rutherford counties in the southwestern part of the state. The county was named in honor of Colonel Benjamin Cleveland, a well-respected Revolutionary War leader famous for his victory at the Battle of Kings Mountain.

The county seat of Cleveland is Shelby, which was named after Colonel Isaac Shelby, also a hero from the Battle of Kings Mountain. With the arrival of the railroad in the latter half of the 19th century, Cleveland County experienced significant growth in its agricultural and textile industries, which played a vital role in shaping the local economy.

Cleveland County is known for its lush landscapes and beautiful scenery, including the South Mountains State Park and the Broad River Greenway. It is also home to the American Legion World Series, a highly regarded tournament featuring top-notch American Legion Baseball teams from all 50 states.

One fun fact about this region is that Cleveland County houses the Earl Scruggs Center, a cultural institution dedicated to the life and legacy of the influential musician Earl Scruggs. As a native of the county, Scruggs is celebrated for his revolutionary style of banjo playing known as the "Scruggs style," which has had a significant impact on bluegrass music.
