Franklin County is located in the northeastern Piedmont region of the beautiful state of North Carolina. It was established in 1779, carved out from the pre-existing Bute County. Franklin County was named in honor of Benjamin Franklin, one of the founding fathers of the United States and a revered statesman, scientist, and writer.

The county seat is Louisburg, which was founded in 1779 and named after King Louis XVI of France, in recognition of France's support during the American Revolution. Franklin County played a vital role in the growth of the state's thriving agricultural industry. Its fertile lands allowed for the cultivation of various crops, particularly tobacco, cotton, corn, and soybeans.

One notable historical event occurred in Franklin County in 1781, during the American Revolutionary War. A skirmish took place at the Battle of Eutaw Springs, where American forces led by Major General Nathanael Greene faced off against British General Charles Cornwallis's forces.

A fun fact about this region is that throughout its history, Franklin County has been home to several mineral springs, most notably Panacea Springs and the Siloam Spring. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, these springs were believed to possess healing properties, attracting visitors seeking relief from various ailments. The springs became a popular destination for vacationers and contributed to the county's early tourism industry.
