.Robeson County, located in the great state of North Carolina, was established on January 6, 1787, and was named in honor of Colonel Thomas Robeson, a local Revolutionary War hero who fought in the Battle of Elizabethtown in 1781. The county is situated in the southeastern part of the state and has its county seat in Lumberton, which was founded in 1787 as well.
The region, which is rich in cultural history, has seen the influence of various Native American tribes, including the Cherokee, Tuscarora, and Catawba. The Lumbee Tribe, the largest Native American tribe in North Carolina and one of the largest tribes in the United States, calls Robeson County its ancestral home.
