Robeson County, located in the great state of North Carolina, was established on January 6, 1787, and was named in honor of Colonel Thomas Robeson, a local Revolutionary War hero who fought in the Battle of Elizabethtown in 1781. The county is situated in the southeastern part of the state and has its county seat in Lumberton, which was founded in 1787 as well.

The region, which is rich in cultural history, has seen the influence of various Native American tribes, including the Cherokee, Tuscarora, and Catawba. The Lumbee Tribe, the largest Native American tribe in North Carolina and one of the largest tribes in the United States, calls Robeson County its ancestral home. The Lumbee people still comprise a significant portion of the county's population today.

Throughout its history, Robeson County has had a diverse economy, relying on agriculture, forestry, and the textile industry. In the 19th and 20th centuries, the county was known for its production of naval stores, such as turpentine and resin, which were extracted from the region's abundant longleaf pine forests.

A fun fact about Robeson County is that it is considered one of the most ethnically diverse counties in the United States. Its unique blend of Native American, African American, and European heritage contributes to a rich cultural fabric and traditions that are celebrated throughout the year, such as the Lumbee Homecoming and Powwow events.
