Cass County is located in the southeastern part of North Dakota and is the most populous county in the state. It was established on January 4, 1873, and named after George W. Cass, a prominent railroad executive during the 19th century. The county seat is Fargo, which is the largest city in North Dakota and an important regional center for commerce, education, and health care.

The area that makes up Cass County was once inhabited by the Dakota Sioux tribe. European settlers, primarily from Scandinavia and Germany, began arriving in the region in the mid-19th century. The county's development was significantly boosted by the construction of the Northern Pacific Railway in the 1870s, which provided increased access to regional and national markets.

Agriculture has always been a driving economic factor in Cass County, with fertile soil supporting the growth of crops like wheat, corn, and soybeans. The agricultural industry remains a vital part of the region's economy today.

One fun fact about Cass County is that it is home to the Roger Maris Museum, which celebrates the life and career of Roger Maris, a Fargo native who was a Major League Baseball player. Maris set a record by hitting 61 home runs in the 1961 season, surpassing Babe Ruth's previous record of 60. This record was held until 1998 when Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa surpassed it.
