Kidder County is located in the central part of the great state of North Dakota, USA. Established on March 9, 1873, by the Dakota Territorial Legislature, the county was named in honor of Jefferson P. Kidder, an attorney, and jurist. Kidder County was finally organized on March 22, 1881. Its county seat is the city of Steele.

In the 19th century, the main economic activity in Kidder County was agriculture, with wheat being the primary crop. The county still retains its agricultural heritage, with farming and ranching playing a significant role in the local economy. The development of Kidder County was greatly influenced by the expansion of the Northern Pacific Railway in the late 19th century, which connected the area to East Coast markets and other Midwestern states.

Today, Kidder County covers an area of approximately 1,351 square miles and has a population of around 2,435 residents (as of the 2020 Census). The county is known for its beautiful landscapes, including the Chase Lake National Wildlife Refuge, which is home to one of North America's largest white pelican nesting colonies.

A fun fact about Kidder County is that it has a unique landmark called the 'Doll House'. The Doll House, also known as the Jesse James Gang Hideout, is a small, peculiar-looking building located near Tuttle, North Dakota. It is believed to have once served as a hideout for the infamous outlaw Jesse James and his gang in the late 19th century.
