Sheridan County, located in the great state of North Dakota, was established on March 9th, 1873, by the Dakota Territory legislature, named after General Philip H. Sheridan, a renowned Union Army general during the American Civil War. However, it wasn't organized until December 24th, 1908, after which Wilbert L. "Billy" Willson was appointed its first county auditor.

The county is situated in the central part of the state and has an area of approximately 1,006 square miles. The county seat is McLusky, a small town with a humble population. Over time, Sheridan County's population has remained relatively low and predominantly rural.

Historically, Sheridan County's economy has been primarily based on agriculture. Early settlers relied on farming and ranching for their livelihoods, with the major crops being wheat, corn, and barley. Today, agricultural practices have diversified, with the addition of canola, sunflower, and soybean production.

One fun fact about Sheridan County is that it is home to the Sanger Family Cemetery, which is the smallest of all registered cemeteries in North Dakota. The cemetery dates back to the late 1800s and is nestled within a quaint grove of trees, providing a unique snapshot into history for visitors who happen to stumble upon it.
