Wells County, located in the great state of North Dakota, was established on August 28, 1884, but was not fully organized until November 3, 1891. The county was named after Edward Payson Wells, a prominent Jamestown lawyer, and legislator. The county seat is Fessenden, which was founded in 1893 and named after F. R. Fessenden, a prominent landowner.

This region of the USA has been primarily characterized by its agricultural activities, particularly the cultivation of crops like wheat and corn as well as livestock raising. Additionally, the local economy has also been supported by businesses in various sectors, including health care, education, manufacturing, and retail trade.

One fun fact about Wells County is that it is home to the Harvey Sandstone Aquifer, which is considered one of the largest and most significant underground water resources in the state of North Dakota. This aquifer provides water to not only Wells County residents but also residents in other surrounding counties, making it a vital part of the region's ecosystem and economy.
