Antelope County is located in the northeastern part of the great state of Nebraska. It was established on March 6, 1871, and named after the large number of pronghorn antelope that once roamed the region. The county consists of eleven townships and covers an area of approximately 861 square miles. The county seat is Neligh, which is also the largest city in Antelope County.

Early settlers were attracted to the region due to its fertile land and potential for successful agriculture. Throughout the 19th and early 20th centuries, the main economic activities in Antelope County were farming and ranching, with major products including corn, oats, wheat, and livestock.

Additionally, the Elkhorn River runs through Antelope County, providing an important source of water for both the local population and agricultural activities. The river's presence has also contributed to the county's rich landscape, with several recreational areas located along its banks.

One fun fact about Antelope County is that it is home to the Ashfall Fossil Beds State Historical Park. This unique park is the site of a remarkable paleontological discovery made in 1971 a volcanic ashfall that occurred around 12 million years ago, which buried and preserved a large number of ancient animals. Visitors to the park can observe ongoing excavations and see the fossils of rhinos, camels, horses, and other prehistoric creatures in situ.
