Hitchcock County is located in the great state of Nebraska and is part of the Southwest region of the state. It was established on March 23, 1873, and named in honor of Phineas W. Hitchcock, a noted Nebraska politician and lawyer, who served as one of Nebraska's first two U.S. Senators.

The county seat is in the city of Trenton. Historically, the region initially gained attention due to the Westward Expansion and the presence of the Oregon Trail, California Trail, and the Pony Express Route, which all passed through the county. The construction of the Burlington & Missouri River Railroad in the 1870s brought significant growth and development to the area.

In terms of agriculture, Hitchcock County is one of the top-producing counties for wheat, corn, and grain sorghum (milo) in Nebraska, contributing heavily to the state's economy. Ranching and farming are important industries in the area, and irrigation helps to support these endeavors.

A fun fact about Hitchcock County is that it is home to Hugh Butler Lake, also known as Red Willow Dam. Completed in 1962 and named after U.S. Senator Hugh Butler, the lake offers recreational opportunities such as fishing, boating, camping, and hiking, attracting numerous visitors every year.
