Lincoln County, situated in the great state of Nebraska, has a rich historical background. Established in 1860, the county was named in honor of the 16th US President, Abraham Lincoln. Covering an area of around 2,575 square miles, it is located in the southwestern part of the state and is part of the North Platte Micropolitan Statistical Area. The county seat and largest city in the region is North Platte.

Originally inhabited by Native American tribes, Lincoln County was established when European settlers began to migrate westward in the mid-19th century. The arrival of the Union Pacific Railroad in the late 1860s further spurred growth and development in the area, with North Platte quickly becoming an essential railroad center. Additionally, cattle ranching and agriculture became crucial economic drivers for the county.

Fun fact: One of the most interesting aspects of Lincoln County is its connection to the famed railroad showman, William F. "Buffalo Bill" Cody. He established his ranch, Scouts Rest Ranch, in North Platte in 1878. Apart from using the ranch as a home base, Cody launched his famous Wild West Show in 1883, which traveled the country and even to Europe, showcasing the skill, lore, and romance of life on the frontier. Scouts Rest Ranch is now a historic state park where visitors can explore the ranch and learn more about Buffalo Bill's life and legacy.
