Carson City County, also known simply as Carson City, is not only a county but also the capital city of the state of Nevada. It is named after the famous frontiersman and scout, Kit Carson. Carson City was founded in 1858 as a small settlement near the Eagle Valley during the silver-mining boom in the region. It was officially established as the capital of the Nevada Territory in 1861 when it was separated from the Utah territory. Later, in 1864, Nevada became a state and Carson City retained its status as the state capital.

The city is home to numerous historical landmarks, including the Nevada State Capitol Building, constructed in 1870, and the Nevada State Museum, which houses the historic Carson City Mint building. The U.S. Mint operated here between 1870 and 1893, producing coins with a "CC" mint mark.

Carson City also played a significant role in the construction of the iconic Virginia and Truckee Railroad in 1869, which connected the Comstock Lode mining region to the broader railway network, significantly impacting the local economy.

One fun fact about Carson City is that it has a rare distinction of being one of only two U.S. state capital cities that borders another state. The city is situated right alongside the eastern border with California, adding further geographic interest to the area.
