Greene County is located in the picturesque Hudson Valley region of the great state of New York. Established on March 25, 1800, the county was named in honor of Nathanael Greene, a Revolutionary War hero who was a close ally of General George Washington. The county was formed from parts of Albany and Ulster Counties and covers an area of 658 square miles.

Greene County played a crucial role during the American Revolution as residents actively participated in the struggle for independence. Following the war, the area experienced substantial economic growth due to its richness in natural resources and waterways, which attracted many businesses such as tanneries and mills.

Historically, Greene County has been known for its natural beauty and the Catskill Mountains that run through it. These scenic mountains and landscapes have inspired a wealth of American art and literature, serving as a backdrop for some of the famous works of the 19th-century Hudson River School of painters and writer Washington Irving, who penned "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" and "Rip Van Winkle."

A fun fact about Greene County is that it is home to the longest and highest zipline canopy tour in North America, the New York Zipline Adventure Tour at Hunter Mountain. This thrilling attraction attracts thousands of visitors every year, allowing them to experience the beauty of the Catskill Mountains from a unique and adrenaline-pumping perspective.
