Otsego County, located in the great state of New York, was established on February 16, 1791, from a portion of Montgomery County. Encompassing a land area of about 1,000 square miles, the county is part of the Central Leatherstocking Region, a term that relies on James Fenimore Cooper's famous Leatherstocking Tales. The county has a population of approximately 60,000 residents.

Oneida and Mohawk tribes initially inhabited the region. European settlers, mostly of German, Scottish, and Irish descent, began to move into the area during the 18th century. The county experienced agricultural growth and industrial development during the 19th century, with significant advances in the production of hops, dairy products, and the manufacturing industry.

The picturesque village of Cooperstown, the county seat, was named after Judge William Cooper, who founded it in 1786. Cooper was the father of renowned American novelist James Fenimore Cooper, known for his Leatherstocking Tales, which included the celebrated novel "The Last of the Mohicans."

A fun fact about Otsego County is that it is known as the "Home of Baseball." The village of Cooperstown houses the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum, which was established in 1939. The museum honors legendary baseball players and the history of the sport, attracting numerous tourists and baseball enthusiasts to the region annually.
