Medina County is located in the northeastern part of the great state of Ohio, United States. Established on February 18, 1812, the county was initially part of the Connecticut Western Reserve, a three million acre plot of land in northeast Ohio that Connecticut claimed and gradually sold off in the late 1700s and early 1800s. Medina County is named after the city of Medina in Saudi Arabia due to its religious significance as the burial place of the Islamic prophet, Muhammad. This naming choice aimed to honor Prophet Muhammad's advocacy for peace.

Settlers, primarily from New England, began to establish towns within the county in the early 1800s. Some notable early settlers included Elijah Boardman and Rufus Ferrand. The county was officially organized in 1818, and the city of Medina was chosen as the county seat. Due to the abundance of fertile soil, Medina County became an agricultural hub in its early years, with settlers growing crops and raising livestock. This agricultural focus earned Medina County the nickname, "The Garden County."

Throughout the 19th and 20th centuries, Medina County continued to grow and prosper, with new infrastructure projects such as roads, bridges, and railroads helping to connect it to larger cities like Cleveland and Akron. Today, Medina County is comprised of a mix of rural and suburban communities, offering residents and visitors a combination of both small-town charm and modern amenities.

Fun Fact: Each year, Medina County hosts the Medina County Fair, a week-long event that dates back to 1846. The fair showcases the county's agricultural roots and serves as a celebration of the community, featuring various exhibits, contests, rides, and entertainment.
