Love County is located in the southern part of the U.S. state of Oklahoma. It was created at the time of Oklahoma's statehood in 1907 and named in honor of Overton Love, a prominent Chickasaw farmer, entrepreneur, and politician. The county is part of the larger region formerly known as the Chickasaw Nation, an area inhabited by the Chickasaw tribe before Oklahoma became a state.

The history of Love County is closely tied to that of the Chickasaw people, who were forcibly removed from their ancestral lands in the southeastern United States during the 1830s. They settled in the area that is now Love County, where they integrated with other tribes like the Choctaw, Creek, and Seminole. The Chickasaw Nation had its own laws and governance, which was later dissolved with Oklahoma's statehood.

The geography of Love County is characterized by rolling hills, fertile farmland, and forests traversed by the scenic Red River, which forms the county's southern boundary with Texas. The area is predominantly rural and agricultural, with a focus on ranching, cattle, and horse breeding.

A fun fact about this region is that Winstar World Casino and Resort, the largest casino (by gaming space) in the United States, is located just across the border in Thackerville, Oklahoma, which is in Love County. This massive casino attraction brings in visitors and tourism revenue from all across the country, benefiting the local economy.
